| Examples | Used for | |
|---|---|---|
| Course | Dessert, Dinner, Breakfast | Google (recipeCategory), Recipe Grid filters |
| Cuisine | Italian, Mexican, Thai | Google (recipeCuisine), Recipe Grid filters |
| Diet | Vegan, Gluten-free | Google (suitableForDiet, for the diets Google recognises), Recipe Grid filters |
| Keywords | weeknight, one-pot | Google (keywords) |
Inside a post (Recipe Card block): in the sidebar, open Course, cuisine & diet, type a name and press Enter. Add as many as you like. Start typing to pick an existing one; a name that doesn’t exist yet is created.
On the recipe’s own screen: use the Courses, Cuisines and Diets panels in the sidebar, like WordPress categories and tags.
Keywords are in the sidebar under Details → Keywords, separated by commas.
With AI set up, Scrumptious can fill these in for you.
How it decides:
Always check diets before you publish. Readers with allergies and intolerances rely on them, and AI can still make mistakes.
Also automatic:
Each suggestion is one short AI request, billed by your provider like Paste & Parse (usually well under a cent). Without AI, the button is replaced by a Set up AI link.
Go to Recipes → Courses, Recipes → Cuisines or Recipes → Diets to add, rename or delete entries, just like post tags.
These lists are separate from your blog’s categories and tags, so recipe organisation doesn’t clutter your blog.
Google recognises these diets: Diabetic, Gluten-free, Halal, Hindu, Kosher, Low-calorie, Low-fat, Low-lactose (or Lactose-free), Low-salt (or Low-sodium), Vegan (or Plant-based) and Vegetarian. Other diets (Keto, Paleo, Dairy-free…) work on your site and in grids but aren’t sent to Google, which has no value for them.
Tip: Keep courses broad (Dessert, Main, Side, Breakfast, Snack, Drink). Use keywords for specifics.
