Google shows recipes with photos, ratings and cook times in search results (“rich results”) when a page includes structured data describing the recipe. Scrumptious writes it for you — nothing to set up.

It’s output as JSON-LD at the bottom of the page, the format Google recommends.
Where it’s output
- Public recipe pages off (default): on the post that shows the recipe.
- Public recipe pages on: only on the recipe’s own page. Posts that also show the card don’t repeat it, so Google sees one recipe at one address. See Recipe pages.
Each recipe is output once per page, however many cards or Recipe Part blocks show it. Several different recipes on one page each get their own data.
It’s never output in feeds, the admin, the REST API or the print page.
Test it
- Publish (or preview) the post.
- Paste its URL into Google’s Rich Results Test.
- You should see Recipes detected. Missing recommended fields (like video) are warnings, not errors.
Google Search Console’s Recipes report shows the same for your whole site over time.
Tip: A missing image is the most common reason a recipe isn’t eligible. Every recipe should have one.
Yoast SEO, Rank Math and other SEO plugins
Scrumptious works alongside them:
- Your SEO plugin keeps handling titles, meta descriptions, canonicals and sitemaps.
- Scrumptious outputs the Recipe data as its own block, which Google reads fine next to your SEO plugin’s data.
If another plugin also outputs Recipe data for the same recipes (for example during a switch), turn Scrumptious’s off to avoid duplicates: Recipes → Settings → SEO & data → Output Recipe structured data (JSON-LD). Leave it on in all other cases.
