# Troubleshooting

## The recipe card doesn’t show

- **Is the recipe published?** Visitors only see published recipes. Draft recipes show only to people who can edit them. Check the status on **Recipes → All Recipes**.
- **Was the recipe deleted or trashed?** In the editor the block says *This recipe no longer exists or you do not have permission to edit it.* Restore it from **Recipes → Trash**, or use **Change recipe** to pick another.
- **Classic editor or page builder?** Use `[scrumptious id="123"]`. See [Shortcodes](https://scrumptiouswp.com/help/shortcodes/).

## The card looks unstyled

- Clear your caching plugin’s cache and any CDN cache.
- If an optimisation plugin combines or delays CSS, exclude the inline style `scrumptious-card-inline-css`.
- Page builders: see the tip in [Shortcodes](https://scrumptiouswp.com/help/shortcodes/).

## Jump to Recipe doesn’t appear

It only shows when the post contains a **published** recipe. With several recipes, it jumps to the first one.

## Buttons (scaling, US/Metric, cook mode, ratings) don’t work

- A script optimiser may be delaying or breaking JavaScript. Exclude `assets/js/card.js` from the Scrumptious plugin folder from “delay JavaScript” / “combine JavaScript” features.
- **US / Metric** only appears when the recipe has convertible units.
- **− / +** only appear when the recipe has a servings number.
- **Cook mode** only appears on browsers that support keeping the screen awake.
- Check the features are on under **Recipes → Settings → Reader features**.

## Google doesn’t show my recipe

1. Test the URL in Google’s [Rich Results Test](https://search.google.com/test/rich-results). Is a **Recipe** found?
2. **No recipe found?**
3. Is **Output Recipe structured data (JSON-LD)** on? (**Recipes → Settings → SEO & data**)
4. With public recipe pages on, the data is on the **recipe page**, not the blog post. Test the recipe page URL. See [Recipe pages](https://scrumptiouswp.com/help/recipe-pages/).
5. Caching: clear the page cache.
6. **Recipe found with errors?** Most often a missing image. Add one under **Recipe image**.
7. **No errors but no rich result yet?** That’s normal for a while. Google decides when to show rich results; new pages can take days or weeks. Check Search Console’s **Recipes** report.

## Duplicate recipe data

If the Rich Results Test shows **two** recipes for one, another plugin (your old recipe plugin, or an SEO plugin’s recipe feature) is also outputting Recipe data. Turn off one of them. See [Google recipe data](https://scrumptiouswp.com/help/google-recipe-data/).

## Ratings

- **Stars can’t be clicked** — ratings may be off (**Recipes → Settings → Reader features**), or a script optimiser is interfering (see above).
- **“Too many ratings. Please try again later.”** — the visitor rated more than 30 times in an hour. It resets after an hour.
- **Average doesn’t update for other visitors** — page caching. It updates when the cache refreshes. See [Star ratings](https://scrumptiouswp.com/help/ratings/).
- **Every visitor seems to be the same person** — some server setups hide visitors’ real addresses behind a proxy. Sites on Cloudflare are handled automatically. For other proxies, a developer can use the `scrumptious_client_ip` filter (see [Developers](https://scrumptiouswp.com/help/developers/)).

## Ingredient amounts look wrong

Look at the preview under the ingredients box to see how each line was read. Common fixes:

- Put the amount first: `2 cups flour`.
- Put notes after a comma: `1 onion, diced`.
- Use `T` for tablespoon and `t` for teaspoon, or spell them out.

## Scaled amounts look odd

Amounts are rounded to kitchen fractions on purpose. Very small amounts (a pinch) and ingredients without an amount don’t scale. If a line has an unusual format (`2-3 large or 4 small apples`), consider splitting it into two lines.

## Recipe pages show “Page not found”

Go to **Settings → Permalinks** and click **Save Changes** once to refresh permalinks. Also check your **Recipe URL base** doesn’t clash with an existing page’s address.

## Import problems

- **A recipe is listed as “could not be read”** — its data in the old plugin is incomplete or damaged. Open it in the old plugin and re-save it, then click **Import remaining recipes**.
- **A post still shows the old card** — the post may use a layout the importer didn’t recognise (e.g. a page builder module). Replace it by hand with the Scrumptious block or `[scrumptious id="…"]`.
- **I want to start over** — click **Undo post changes**, delete the imported recipes from **Recipes → All Recipes**, and import again.
