# Times and servings

## Times

| Field | Use it for |
| --- | --- |
| **Prep (min)** | Hands-on time before cooking: chopping, mixing. |
| **Cook (min)** | Time on the heat or in the oven. |
| **Rest (min)** | Hands-off waiting: chilling, rising, marinating, cooling. |

Enter **whole minutes**. For 1 hour 30 minutes, type `90`. The card shows it as *1 hr 30 mins*.

**Total time** is prep + cook + rest, worked out for you. Recipes imported from another plugin keep the total time they had there until you change one of the times.

Times you leave at 0 aren’t shown.

In Google’s recipe data, prep, cook and total times are sent (`prepTime`, `cookTime`, `totalTime`). Google has no field for rest time, so it only counts toward the total.

## Servings

- **Servings** — a number, e.g. `4` or `24`.
- **Unit** — what the number counts, e.g. *cookies*, *slices*, *muffins*. Leave it empty when it’s people or portions.

The card shows *24 cookies* or *4 servings*. The servings number is what readers change when they scale the recipe (**−** / **+**), so fill it in if you want scaling to work. See [Reader features](https://scrumptiouswp.com/help/reader-features/).
