# Share buttons

Every recipe card can show share buttons so readers can save and send your recipes. By default they sit at the **bottom of the card**, after the notes, so the recipe stays the focus; you can move them to the top instead (smaller, under the title). They’re round buttons with each network’s own logo and colour; hover or long-press one to see its name.

| Button | Does |
| --- | --- |
| **Pin it** | Opens Pinterest with the recipe link, photo and name filled in. First in the row, because Pinterest is where most recipe traffic comes from. |
| **Facebook** | Opens Facebook’s share window. |
| **X** | Opens a post with the recipe name and link. Off by default. |
| **WhatsApp** | Opens WhatsApp with the name and link. |
| **Email** | Opens the reader’s email app with the name and link. |
| **Copy link** | Copies the link and shows *Link copied!* |
| **Share…** | Appears on phones and browsers that support it, and opens the device’s own share menu (Messages, Notes, any app). |

## No tracking, no cookie banner

The buttons are plain links. Nothing loads from Pinterest, Facebook or anyone else until a reader clicks one, so there’s no tracking, no slowdown and no need for cookie consent. That’s the difference from add-on services like ShareThis or AddThis.

## Choosing the buttons

**Recipes → Settings → Sharing** — tick the networks you want, then pick a **Button style**:

- **Round brand icons** (default) — compact logo buttons.
- **Brand icons with names** — the logo plus the name (*Pin it*, *Facebook*…), for readers who don’t know the logos.

And a **Position on the card**:

- **At the bottom, after the recipe** (default) — under a thin line, labelled *Share this recipe*.
- **At the top, small, under the title** — compact buttons next to the Print and Cook mode buttons.

## Turning them off

- Site-wide: **Recipes → Settings → Show on the card → Share buttons**.
- One card: the block’s **Card display → Share buttons**.
- Anywhere else: the **Recipe Share Buttons** block (a [Recipe Part](https://scrumptiouswp.com/help/recipe-parts/)) shows just the buttons, e.g. at the end of a post.

Share buttons are never printed.

## Which link is shared?

- With [recipe pages](https://scrumptiouswp.com/help/recipe-pages/) on: the recipe’s own page.
- Otherwise: the post that shows the recipe.

The photo sent to Pinterest is the recipe image. For best results on Pinterest, use a tall or square photo.

## For developers

Change networks, labels or links with the `scrumptious_share_links` filter, swap the icons with `scrumptious_share_icons`, move them per recipe with `scrumptious_share_position`, restyle with the `.swp-share__btn--{network}` classes (each sets `--swp-brand`), or override the `parts/share.php` template.
