# The recipe editor

The same editor appears in two places:

- **Inside a post**, in the **Recipe Card** block.
- On the recipe’s own screen, **Recipes → All Recipes → (recipe)** or **Add New Recipe**.

Everything saves automatically. Inside a post, the status line at the top right of the card says **Saving…**, **Unsaved changes** or **All changes saved**. On the recipe’s own screen, click **Save** / **Update** as you would for any post.

## On the card

| Field | What to put in it | Shown on the card | In Google data |

| **Recipe name** | The recipe’s name. On the recipe’s own screen this is the normal post title. | Card heading | `name` |
| **Description** (placeholder *A short, appetizing description…*) | One or two sentences. Bold, italic and links are allowed. | Under the name (if **Summary** is on) | `description` |
| **Prep (min)**, **Cook (min)**, **Rest (min)** | Whole minutes. Rest covers chilling, rising, marinating. | Times row | `prepTime`, `cookTime` |
| Total time | Calculated for you: prep + cook + rest. | Times row | `totalTime` |
| **Servings** and **Unit** | A number, plus what you’re counting (*cookies*, *slices*). Leave Unit empty for people. | Times row, and it drives servings scaling | `recipeYield` |
| **Ingredients** | One ingredient per line. See [Ingredients](https://scrumptiouswp.com/help/ingredients/). | Ingredients list | `recipeIngredient` |
| **Instructions** | One step per line. See [Instructions](https://scrumptiouswp.com/help/instructions/). | Numbered steps | `recipeInstructions` |

## In the block sidebar

| **Recipe image** | **Choose image** / **Replace image** / **Remove** | Use a large photo, at least 1200 px wide. Square, 4:3 and 16:9 crops are made automatically for Google. If a recipe has no image of its own, the post’s featured image is used. See [Recipe images](https://scrumptiouswp.com/help/images/). |
| **Gallery** | **Add photos** / **Edit gallery** | Extra photos of the dish or the steps, shown as a gallery on the card. See [Recipe gallery](https://scrumptiouswp.com/help/gallery/). |
| **Course, cuisine & diet** | **Course**, **Cuisine**, **Diet** | Type a name and press Enter; new ones are created as you go. See [Courses, cuisines and diets](https://scrumptiouswp.com/help/taxonomies/). On the recipe’s own screen these appear as the normal **Courses**, **Cuisines** and **Diets** panels instead. **Suggest with AI** fills them in for you ([how](https://scrumptiouswp.com/help/taxonomies/#let-ai-suggest-them)). |
| **Details** | **Keywords** | Comma-separated, e.g. *weeknight, one-pot*. Goes into Google’s `keywords`. |
|  | **Video URL** | A link to the recipe video (YouTube, Vimeo or a video file). Added to Google data as a video. |
|  | **Author name (optional)** | Leave empty to use the recipe’s WordPress author. |
|  | **Adapted from (link)** / **Adapted from (name)** | Credit an original recipe. Shows *Adapted from …* at the end of the card. Filled in for you by [Import from a link](https://scrumptiouswp.com/help/import-from-url/) (Scrumptious Pro). |
| **Nutrition (per serving)** | **Serving size**, **Calories** (kcal), **Carbohydrates**, **Protein**, **Fat**, **Saturated fat**, **Fiber**, **Sugar** (g), **Sodium**, **Cholesterol** (mg) | Numbers only; units are added for you. See [Nutrition](https://scrumptiouswp.com/help/nutrition/). |
| **Card display** | **Style**, section toggles, print button | Per-card overrides of your site defaults. See [Recipe Card block](https://scrumptiouswp.com/help/recipe-card-block/). |

## Toolbar buttons (inside a post)

The Recipe Card block toolbar has:

- **Edit** / **Preview** — switch between the editor and a preview of the finished card.
- **Change recipe** — swap this block to a different recipe (the current recipe isn’t deleted).

## Where this recipe appears

On a recipe’s own screen, the sidebar panel **Where this recipe appears** lists every post that shows it, with links to view them. The same information is in the **Used in** column on **Recipes → All Recipes**.
