# Recipe Card block

The **Recipe Card** block shows a complete recipe: photo, name, description, rating, buttons, times, ingredients, instructions, notes and nutrition. It’s where you write the recipe too (see [The recipe editor](https://scrumptiouswp.com/help/recipe-editor/)).

## Adding one

Insert the **Recipe Card** block, then choose **Create new recipe** or **Or insert an existing recipe**. You can use the same recipe in as many posts as you like.

## Toolbar

| Button | Does |
| --- | --- |
| **Edit** | Shows the recipe editor. |
| **Preview** | Shows the finished card exactly as visitors see it. |
| **Change recipe** | Picks a different recipe for this block. The old recipe isn’t deleted. |

## Card display (sidebar)

These override your site defaults for **this card only**. **Site default** follows **Recipes → Settings**. Use **Preview** to see the result.

Ingredients and instructions are always shown.

### The three styles

- **Full** — a boxed card with the photo beside the title. The default.
- **Compact** — on wide screens, ingredients sit beside the steps so the whole recipe fits on less screen.
- **Minimal** — no box, no photo, lighter step numbers. Blends into your theme. Good when your post already has big photos.

Hidden sections are still included in Google’s recipe data.

## What visitors see

Depending on your [settings](https://scrumptiouswp.com/help/settings/):

- **Print recipe** button (opens a clean print page — see [Print view](https://scrumptiouswp.com/help/print-view/)).
- **Cook mode** button (keeps the screen on while cooking).
- **Share buttons** at the bottom of the card: Pin it, Facebook, WhatsApp, email and copy link (see [Share buttons](https://scrumptiouswp.com/help/sharing/)).
- Star rating they can click.
- Servings **−** / **+** and **1×**, **2×**, **3×**, plus **US** / **Metric**.
- Tap-to-tick ingredients and steps.

## Styling the card

- Accent colour: **Recipes → Settings → Accent color**. It’s used for headings, bullets, step numbers, buttons and stars.
- Card text uses your theme’s fonts.
- Theme developers can change anything — see [Developers](https://scrumptiouswp.com/help/developers/).

## One recipe per post, or several?

You can add several Recipe Card blocks to one post (a round-up, for example). Each gets its own Google data. The **Jump to Recipe** button jumps to the first card.
