# Instructions

Type or paste the method into **One step per line**. Each line becomes a numbered step on the card.

Preheat the oven to 375°F.
Whisk the flour and baking soda.
Beat the butter and sugars until fluffy, about 3 minutes.

## Rules

- **Each line is one step.** A blank line doesn’t create an empty step.
- Numbers you paste in front (`1.`, `2)`, `Step 3:`) are removed, because the card numbers steps itself.
- Keep a step to one instruction or one short paragraph. Very long steps are harder to follow on a phone.

## Groups (“Make the dough”)

1. Click **+ Add instruction group**.
2. Name it in **Group name** (e.g. *Make the dough*, *Assemble*).
3. Put that group’s steps in its box.

Numbering restarts in each group. In Google’s recipe data each group becomes a named section (`HowToSection`); an unnamed group is called *Part 1*, *Part 2* and so on.

## Step photos

Step photos appear under the step they belong to. Recipes brought in from another plugin keep their step photos (see [Importing](https://scrumptiouswp.com/help/importing/)).

Step photos stay with their step when you add, remove or reorder other steps. If you rewrite a step’s text *and* add or remove steps in the same edit, check its photo is still in the right place.

## On the card

- Readers can tap a step to tick it off (it fades and is struck through), handy when cooking. See [Reader features](https://scrumptiouswp.com/help/reader-features/).
