# Import from a link

Paste the web address of a recipe page into **Paste & Parse** and the recipe is filled in for you: name, description, times, servings, ingredients, steps, nutrition, keywords, video, and course, cuisine and diet.

It’s included in every Scrumptious Pro plan (see [Installing Scrumptious Pro](https://scrumptiouswp.com/help/pro-license/)). Great for moving your own recipes from an old site.

## Using it

1. Open a recipe and click **Paste & Parse**.
2. Paste just the address, e.g. `https://example.com/best-banana-bread/`. Two options appear:
3. **Add an “Adapted from” link to the original recipe** (on by default) — adds *Adapted from Site Name* at the end of the card, linked to the page, and tells Google the recipe is based on it. You can edit or remove it later under **Details → Adapted from**.
4. **Also copy the recipe photo** (off by default) — copies the page’s main recipe photo into your Media Library and sets it as the recipe image.
5. Click **Import recipe**, then check the result.

**Important:** Only copy photos from your own recipes (for example moving recipes from an old site), or with the owner’s permission. Photos and written descriptions are protected by copyright. Ingredient lists and basic steps generally aren’t, but always credit your source.

## How it works

Most recipe websites include the recipe as structured data for Google. Scrumptious reads that data directly, so the result is exact — no AI needed, nothing to pay. It brings in the name, description, servings, times, ingredients, instruction groups, nutrition, keywords and video, and adds the page’s course, cuisine and diet to your recipe (creating ones you don’t have yet, if you’re allowed to manage them). If the page leaves any of those out and AI is set up, AI suggests the missing ones and they’re added too. Check them, especially diets. See [Courses, cuisines, diets and keywords](https://scrumptiouswp.com/help/taxonomies/#let-ai-suggest-them).

If a page has no recipe data, its text is read instead with [Paste & Parse](https://scrumptiouswp.com/help/paste-and-parse/) (AI when set up, the built-in parser otherwise), and you’ll see *This page doesn’t include recipe data, so its text was read instead.* Check those results carefully.

Ingredient groups aren’t part of Google’s recipe data, so imported ingredients arrive as one list. Add group names afterwards if you want them.

## When a link doesn’t work

| Message | Why | What to do |
| --- | --- | --- |
| *That website blocks automatic requests.* | Some big recipe sites block requests that don’t come from a browser. | Open the page, copy the recipe and paste the text instead. |
| *That page wasn’t found.* | The address is wrong or the page is gone. | Check the link. |
| *Couldn’t reach that page (…)* | The site is down, slow, or your server can’t reach it. | Try again, or paste the text. |
| *That doesn’t look like a web address.* | The box contains more than a single link. | Paste only the address, starting with `https://`. |

Links to private addresses (like `localhost` or your office network) are refused for security.

## For developers

- Filters: `scrumptious_url_import_result` (`$result, $url, $node`) adjusts a result; `scrumptious_import_url_ai_terms` (`$fill`) returns false to stop AI filling in a missing course, cuisine or diet.
- REST: `POST /scrumptious-pro/v1/import-url` with `{ url, photo, credit }`.
