# Recipe images

Google shows recipe rich results only when a recipe has an image, so every recipe should have one.

## Adding the image

In the block sidebar, open **Recipe image** and click **Choose image**. Pick from the Media Library or upload. **Replace image** and **Remove** are there too.

On the recipe’s own screen, the image is the normal **Featured image**.

## Best size

Use a large, sharp photo at least **1200 px wide** (1200 × 1200 or larger is ideal). Scrumptious creates three 1200 px wide crops automatically:

| Crop | Used for |
| --- | --- |
| Square (1:1) | The card itself and Google |
| 4:3 | Google |
| 16:9 | Google |

All three plus the full-size image are listed in the recipe’s Google data. Google picks whichever fits the result it’s showing.

**Tip:** Keep the food in the middle of the photo so it survives the square crop.

## If a recipe has no image

If the recipe has no image of its own, Scrumptious uses the **featured image of the post** showing it.

## Hiding the image on the card

Some themes already show a big photo at the top of the post. Turn the card image off site-wide under **Recipes → Settings → Show on the card → Image**, or for one card in **Card display**. The image is still sent to Google.

The **Minimal** card style never shows the image.

## Images in older uploads

Crops are made when an image is uploaded. For images uploaded before Scrumptious was installed, regenerate thumbnails with a plugin such as *Regenerate Thumbnails* to create the new crops. Until then, the full-size image is used.
