# Recipe gallery

Besides the main recipe image, each recipe can have a **gallery**: extra photos of the finished dish, a slice, the steps, or serving ideas.

## Adding photos

1. Select the Recipe Card block (or open the recipe under **Recipes**).
2. In the sidebar, open **Gallery** and click **Add photos**.
3. Pick or upload images in the Media Library. Select several at once.
4. Drag to reorder, add captions if you like, then click **Insert gallery**.

To change it later, click **Edit gallery**. Remove a single photo with the **×** on its thumbnail in the sidebar.

Up to 30 photos per recipe.

## On the card

The gallery appears after the instructions, as a grid of square thumbnails. Readers can:

- **Tap a photo** to open it large in a lightbox.
- Use the **‹ ›** buttons or the arrow keys to move between photos, and **×**, **Esc** or a tap outside to close.
- See the photo’s **caption** (or *2 / 5* when there’s none).

Without JavaScript (or if a browser doesn’t support it), tapping a thumbnail simply opens the full-size photo.

## Showing it elsewhere

- **Recipe Gallery** block: a [Recipe Part](https://scrumptiouswp.com/help/recipe-parts/) that shows just the gallery — for example at the end of a post, away from the card.
- Hide it on cards site-wide: **Recipes → Settings → Show on the card → Gallery**. Or per card in **Card display**.

The gallery is never printed.

## Google

The first five gallery photos are added to the recipe’s image list in Google recipe data, after the main image. The main recipe image is still the one Google prefers, so choose your best shot for **Recipe image**.

## Tips

- Use the same aspect ratio for all gallery photos; thumbnails are cropped square.
- Images uploaded before Scrumptious was installed need their thumbnails regenerated to get the square crop (see [Recipe images](https://scrumptiouswp.com/help/images/)).
