# Connect OpenRouter (one click)

[OpenRouter](https://openrouter.ai/) is a single account that gives you access to models from Google, OpenAI, Anthropic, Meta and many others, with one balance. It’s the easiest way to use AI in Scrumptious.

## Connect

1. Go to **Recipes → Settings** and scroll to **AI (bring your own key)**.
2. Click **Connect OpenRouter**.
3. You’re taken to OpenRouter. Sign in, or create an account (email, Google or GitHub).
4. OpenRouter asks you to authorise the key for your site. Approve it.
5. You’re sent back to Scrumptious settings with *OpenRouter is connected. Paste & Parse and the other AI tools are ready.*

That’s it. OpenRouter creates a key for your site and hands it straight to your site; you never see or copy it. **Use** is set to **OpenRouter** automatically.

**Note:** You must be logged in to WordPress as an administrator, and finish the OpenRouter step within 15 minutes. If it takes longer you’ll see *The OpenRouter connection expired. Please click Connect again.*

## Add credit

OpenRouter is pay-as-you-go. Add a few dollars at **openrouter.ai → Settings → Credits**. A few dollars covers thousands of recipes with the automatic model.

If your balance runs out you’ll see *Your AI account is out of credit. Add credit with your provider, then try again.* Paste & Parse still works with the built-in parser in the meantime.

## Check it works

Click **Test the connection**. You should see *It works! OpenRouter answered using …* with the model name.

## Reconnect or switch accounts

Click **Reconnect OpenRouter** and approve again. The new key replaces the old one.

## Disconnect

1. Tick **Remove** next to **OpenRouter API key** and click **Save AI settings**.
2. To be thorough, delete the key in your OpenRouter account too (**openrouter.ai → Settings → Keys**). It’s the key created for your site.

## Prefer pasting a key?

You can create a key yourself at [openrouter.ai/settings/keys](https://openrouter.ai/settings/keys) and paste it into **OpenRouter API key**, then choose **OpenRouter** under **Use** and save.
