# Using a Gemini, OpenAI or Anthropic key

If you already have an account with one of these providers, you can use it directly. The steps are the same in Scrumptious for all three:

1. Create an API key with the provider (below).
2. Go to **Recipes → Settings → AI (bring your own key)**.
3. Paste the key into that provider’s **API key** box.
4. Under **Use**, choose the provider.
5. Click **Save AI settings**, then **Test the connection**.

**Note:** Provider websites change their menus from time to time. The links below go straight to each key page; if a page looks different, look for “API keys”.

## Google Gemini

1. Open [Google AI Studio → API keys](https://aistudio.google.com/app/apikey) and sign in with a Google account.
2. Click **Create API key** and choose (or create) a Google Cloud project.
3. Copy the key (it starts with `AIza`).

Gemini has a **free tier** with daily limits, which is often enough for a food blog. For heavier use, enable billing on the project in Google Cloud.

## OpenAI

1. Open [platform.openai.com/api-keys](https://platform.openai.com/api-keys) and sign in.
2. Click **Create new secret key**, give it a name like *My blog – Scrumptious*, and create it.
3. Copy the key (it starts with `sk-`). OpenAI only shows it once.
4. Add credit under **Settings → Billing** on the OpenAI platform. API use isn’t included in a ChatGPT subscription.

## Anthropic

1. Open [console.anthropic.com/settings/keys](https://console.anthropic.com/settings/keys) and sign in.
2. Click **Create Key**, name it, and create it.
3. Copy the key (it starts with `sk-ant-`). It’s only shown once.
4. Add credit under **Billing** in the console. API use isn’t included in a Claude Pro or Max subscription.

## Changing or removing a key

- **Replace:** paste the new key over the saved one and save. The box shows *Saved — paste a new key to replace it* while a key is stored.
- **Remove:** tick **Remove** next to the key and save. Also delete the key in the provider’s dashboard if you no longer need it.

You can store keys for several providers and switch between them with **Use**.
